And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly – Gen 17:1-2
For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love – Gal 5:6
And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live. – Deut 30:6
As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy – 1 Peter 1:14-16
Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: – Heb 12:14
For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven – Matthew 5:20
And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: – Phil 3:9
Last Week:
Holiness – Pure, whit as snow, without blemish, set apart for God to do His will, cleansing from sin deep within, surrendering 100% of our autonomy to God. Heart circumcision/Holiness is very important – Gen 17:1, 14, Gal 5:6, Deut 30:6, Heb 12:14
Our role in Sanctification – John 17:19, Joshua 3:5,
What does it mean to walk in Holiness?
Holiness is the very nature of God – 1 Peter 1:14-16; Matt 5:48
It’s a call to something more, to walk outside our nature – Matt 5:20-48:
v21,22- more S_______ C__________.
V27,28 – more F___________
v31-32 – more L_________ & C___________
v33-37- more I_____________
v38-42 – more T____________ & L_____________
43-47 – more L_________
Essentially, more of the fruits of the spirit – Gal 5:22-23 Note: Christ Righteousness not self-righteousness – Matt 5:20, Is 64:6, Phil 3:9
How do we get this Righteousness?
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. – Ephesians 5: 25-27
Our Responsibility:
• It’s by Faith – Phil 3:9, Acts 15:9
• Hunger and thirst – Matthew 5:6
• Seek the Lord for the rain of righteousness – Hosea 10:12
